Adventure time sums up the “nice guy” trope in a nutshell.
Tony Hall expected to announce he will save BBC4 and close channel that first aired Gavin and Stacey.
This is the channel that also first aired Torchwood, Doctor Who Confidential and The Mighty Boosh.
Ever since Zai Bennett became the channel controller, he’s made a consistent effort to replace the drama programming with reality TV. He also said there wasn’t the money for such programmes. I hope you enjoyed that paycheck of £250,000 per year, Zia!
Johnny Vegas said after his drama/comedy was axed by Bennett:”I’m being fired by the man who commissioned Kerry Katona… so I’m proud to do anything else that you’re not involved in.”
Maybe if the content had remained high with programmes like The Fades, Being Human, Mongrels, Lip Service and many others he’s cancelled, maybe the channel wouldn’t be getting axed!!
(X) Well fucking done, Bennett. I see it’s really worked out for you. Prick. Fuck off back to making TOWIE for ITV.
The BBC made the fatal mistake (yet again) of trying to appeal to young people (a phrase I hate more and more) by making vapid, sensationalist shit and for some reason the ratings kept falling! Shocker. It’s because they’re aiming for a demographic that doesn’t really exist. Young people want what everyone else wants from TV shows: new ideas, interesting characters, and (most importantly) soul. Think of the shows that could have been saved, the new writers and performers that could have been given a voice if they hadn’t squandered that money on stuff like this or this or this.
But maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I’m just a grumpy old bastard.
If I live to see the seven wonders
I’ll make a path to the rainbow’s end
I’ll never live to match the beauty again
